ST MARK's PROSPECTUS
Courses of Secondary Study

Saint Mark’s Coptic Orthodox College is accredited with the NSW Board of Studies, enabling students to qualify for the awards of both the NSW School Certificate in Year 10 and the NSW Higher School Certificate in Year 12.

The Head of Curriculum leads the Heads of Departments who guide the teaching staff in the various subject areas, to provide interesting and meaningful learning experiences for students.

During their first year at Secondary school, Year 7 students study a variety of subjects, which are: Coptic Orthodox Studies, English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography, Technology, Music, Visual Arts, Drama and Personal Development/Health/Physical Education.

During Year 8, students continue studying these subjects, but also study Japanese as well.

In Years 9 and 10, students can qualify for the NSW School Certificate by studying a core range of subjects comprising of Coptic Orthodox Studies, English, Mathematics (Stages 5.1, 5.2 and 5.3), Science, Australian History, Australian Geography and Personal Development/Health/Physical Education. In addition to these subjects, they have a choice of two electives from the list below.

  • Industrial Technology
  • Information Software & Technology

In Years 11 & 12, students can qualify for the NSW Higher School Certificate by studying a minimum of 12 units in Year 11 and 10 units in Year 12. Coptic Orthodox Studies is a mandatory College requirement, while at least 2 units of English must be completed by students as required by the Board of Studies. Other courses that students can choose from are listed below.

  • Mathematics (General, Mathematics, Extension I, Extension II)
  • Science (Biology. Chemistry, Physics, Senior Science)

Further Vocational Courses may be introduced in future years. Opportunities are available for students to attend external Vocational Education Courses at TAFE Colleges.
